Dr. Quách Hoa Mai presents a recent experimental study of the three-dimensional Anderson transition, a fundamental phenomenon arising from quantum interference in disordered systems. Using ultracold atoms in a laser-speckle disordered potential together with a new energy-resolved technique, the team directly measured the mobility edge — the critical energy separating localized from diffusive matter-wave states — without relying on a theoretical model. The results agree closely with state-of-the-art numerical simulations, resolving long-standing discrepancies between theory and earlier experiments.
